a heart of flesh

In church this week the message was on the condition of our hearts, a topic whose importance I have recently begun to understand.  Vern (the pastor) shared a verse that I had never really heard before but I fell in love with it!  It was from Ezekiel 36, and it said:

"25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.  26  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

So often I allow idols to have a stronghold in my heart and it hardens my heart to one of stone but God promises that He will restore our hearts and bring life to places of death, and I love that reminder!
