My new prayer
This semester I am in a class called "The Holiness Movement in American Methodism," and it has become one of my favorite classes. I really don't like history all that much, but this class is just good for my soul. Over the course of the semester, we have started every class with prayer and time to listen for God to speak to us. And in some of the most powerful displays of community in my time at Candler, we have prayed for one another with the laying on of hands.
Many of the students in this class with me are fellow third-years, who have had BOOM interviews, questions about the next steps, and lots of anxious waiting to hear where we will be next year. Since the UMC is an itinerate system, that means pastors are appointed to churches by their DS, Bishop, and cabinet. It has been an incredibly nerve-wracking season of waiting and wondering what the details of my first appointment will look like. And it's even better because I still don't know, so I'm trying to find some peace in midst of the waiting. I just have to share the song that I have fallen in love with, the song that has become my constant prayer. It is called "Wesley Prayer (Come Like a Fire)" by Mark Swayze who leads worship at the Harvest. Here are the lyrics, and they are great - I love them!
VERSE I
I am Yours, no longer my own
Put me to whatever You will
Place me with whomever You choose
I am Yours and You are mine
I am Yours, no longer my own
Put me to whatever You will
Place me with whomever You choose
I am Yours and You are mine
VERSE II
I am Yours, no longer my own
Raise me up or bring me low
Use my all or lay me aside
I am Yours and You are mine
I am Yours, no longer my own
Raise me up or bring me low
Use my all or lay me aside
I am Yours and You are mine
CHORUS
Come like a fire, Oh
Burn in us (x4)
Come like a fire, Oh
Burn in us (x4)
BRIDGE
Let me be full
Let me be empty
Let me have all things
Let me have nothing
Let me be full
Let me be empty
Let me have all things
Let me have nothing
Seriously this song is my jam...I hope you listen to it and love it as much as I do!
